When you were growing up, you likely swore to the Mississippi and back that you would never in a million years turn into your mother. You would be different, you would be “cooler” (whatever that means). You were sure of it.

Yet, now that you’re down the road a bit, you probably catch yourself doing the exact opposite of what you thought. You look in the mirror and you see your mom’s face more than ever, and you see her even more so in how you go about your day — and it may just warm your heart.

“You are your mother’s child” is a phrase that so many folks have heard at least once in their lifetimes. There may be no escaping it, no matter what your relationship was like with her while growing up. It’s in your blood, and it’s in your heart, too.

1. You're Absolutely Sure You Left The Oven On All The Time 1/11

Even if you’ve already checked and re-checked, you just cannot remember for sure if you turned the oven off, turned off all the lights, locked the door, or blew out that candle. Surely while you are gone to the grocery store your entire house will have burned down or been burgled if you don’t get out of the car and go check for the third time. All those times mom turned the car around to quadruple check don’t seem so unnecessary anymore.
